For more than 25 years, Jen Schmidt has been making art. Whether crayon on construction paper, oil on canvas or photos on newsprint, Jen has never shied away from the opportunity to create. After graduating from the University of Puget Sound in 2007, she served Incline Village as the North Lake Tahoe Bonanza’s photographer for two years. Alas, the newspaper industry took a turn for the worse and on April 1, 2009 Jen Schmidt Photography was born both of necessity and passion. Jen has never looked back.
In 2009 alone Jen earned nine Nevada Press Association awards, including first place awards for Best Feature Photo, Best General News Photo, Best Illustrated Photo and Best Entertainment Writing. She hopes to earn many more in wedding and portraiture in the years to come. A 16-year local raised in Incline, Jen enjoys giving to her community, and participates annually in Star Follies, Relay For Life and Boy Scout Troop 37 as a merit badge counselor for both Art and Photography. She is a contributing editor for Tahoe Quarterly and also regularly does work for local non-profits in need.
Jen grew up ski racing at Diamond Peak and still enjoys cruising through the trees or carving up corduroy on a bluebird day. On weekends in the summer, if she’s not working you’ll find her dangling her toes off a sailboat, eating sushi on the beach or backpacking Desolation with her trusty golden retriever, Nala, and her friends and family. Jen loves traveling, from Mexico to Montana, Texas and Michigan, and of course, she takes a camera wherever she goes. But every once in a blue moon she sits still with a glass of wine on the deck as alpenglow lights the mountains around her.
